Task DescriptionUnderstanding the relationship between living organisms and the way in which they affect one another is a critical concept in the study of biology. It is critically important that the biodiversity of an ecosystem be maintained as every single creature impacts another in some way or another. In this task, students will read a number of articles highlighting the far-reaching effects of removing, adding, or altering the lifestyle of an organism in an environment. Then, they will write an essay that analyzes the portance of biodiversity to the greater functioning of the whole ecosystem.
Teaching TaskL1: Why is preserving the biodiversity of an ecosystem critical to its survival? After reading the assigned articles describing the effects of changes to an ecosystem, write an essay that addresses the question and analyzes the effect of a single species on the functioning of an entire ecosystem, providing examples to clarify your analysis. What conclusion or implications can you draw? A bibliography is required.
